Fast-paced grazing the sidewalk at lunch break, glazed walls carousel by.
I’m a child tracing my fingers along all of the textures. Until glass comes by.
Something aggregates around the rims of my fingerpads. Finally I look at my
hands. And it's dust. What now.
Perusing the ground and the orphaned advertisement, the spillover displays,
the dry cleaner tags, the red glass-headed pin. These objects have a
different enough viscosity that they don’t mix immediately with the rest of
reality. Droplets that hold onto their own before merging. Pearly gray clouds
smother bright light, no shadows cast. I’m not crying but lacrimal water
wades out from the outer corner of my left eye. Swiping it away won’t stop
the stream.
The hunter-gatherer spots a coin. This coin asks how long has it been there
for? I try to pick it up but it’s stuck to the floor, try to wedge it off the
pavement with my keys but it won’t come off. It says: “kiss me”.
Gasp! My fingers rush to my lips and I kiss the dust instead. The coin is tin.
Not a real coin. I got got.
But what if it would like to turn into a prince? Or gold? Or a golden prince?
